Your Voice Matters - Proactive Business Support for Veteran Women
Show Notes

Support veteran women in business! In this episode of Your Voice Matters, Host Rebecca Dollinger talks with VR Small, Executive Director for the Veteran Women's Enterprise Center in Dallas, TX. The VWEC is the prototype for this national movement to support business women who have supported our nation with their service.

During the COVID-19 crisis, the center has been closed and they've been using alternate and virtual methods to deliver vital sustaining information. Some of the new virtual series being offered include the Monday Morning Message, a type of 'state of the local economy' delivered by leaders representing various districts and offices in Dallas. Women with military service backgrounds are highly qualified for municipal contracts and government grants, but lack the relationships that would put available contracts in their hands. With VR's proactive approach to relationship building, she can create environments where those resources are made available to women owned business well qualified to execute those contracts.

In addition to the Monday Morning Message now available on Zoom, Trending Thursday Tips will also focus on vital relationship building from both the personal and commercial side of business growth.

One area VR outlines is banking. Women tend to wait too long to get financial support from their bank. The new Breakfast With a Banker will give female veteran business owners opportunities to ask questions and build relationships early, so they can position themselves to be considered when it's time to inject working capital into a new launch.

But VR's not focused on loans. There are currently $10,000 grants available to women vets, and 3-minute business pitch competitions that can help a business with a $500-$2500 line of credit that she doesn't have to front herself, and if managed well, only increases her business's financial borrowing power when it's time to grow.

When you support a female business owner, you help her care for her family. Find out how you can support them VeteranWomensEC.org, and email them at info@veteranwomensec.org. Connect with VR on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
