The Business 1st Responders discuss switching gears, learn how to start your business in challenging times. People are reconsidering their goals these days, and some local business owners are looking for new opportunities, ready for a change. Suzanne Johns, Jake Jordan, and Jay Maymi have the details you need to be successful.

Jake says getting the word out is top priority once you've decided on a venture. You'll want to have content ideas laid out for the next 30, 60, and 90 days. To do this well, look into Google Trends, and find questions people are already asking. Answering those questions will get you on their radar faster.

The entrepreneurial spirit is willing to take calculated risks. Jay chimes in to discuss the shift. If you're still wondering if you should continue with your present company or look for a new venture, ask yourself,

"Do I continue with what I'm doing ... and go down with the Titanic? Or do I look for the life raft?"

How do you find the right thing? Jay advises solitude, so you can let inner creativity flow. What can you get excited about? Get around people that can provide input AND do your research.

Suzanne talks about startup capital. She advises women to go to The Girl Boss Foundation, and look into SBA loans. Have your ducks in a row before you talk with your banker. Exude confidence because if you don't, it will come across as though you are unsure you want this business. YOU have to be sold this business is going to work before you go after funding. She also advises you to work with a local banker because they are more invested in the community.

Suzanne advises women to go after Womens Business Enterprise (WBE) certification to help secure jobs your community and region already allocated for WBE.
