How do we keep our mission statement alive for a positive and productive company culture? Doreen says you need 5-7 words to sum this up for your team. They have to know where they are heading.
Many people don't realize this is a top-down issue. It will always be the leaders in the company that will have the biggest responsibility and impact on company culture. The energy and productivity in your company are directly related to how well the team understands the mission at hand. That's not simply a recognition at a company banquet, it's an everyday conversation.
In fact, it doesn't even matter how this message is communicated. Successful businesses use signage, dancing, singing, and other creative ways to reinforce an understanding of the quality of work they are expected to perform. They have to know how vital they are to the success of the company. It's up to leadership to make it clear WHY it's important.
When there is no cash flow, Doreen suggests looking at leading versus managing the staff.
