Show Notes

Cindy Wilkerson is a professional photographer and mother who has adopted three children with mixed ethnicity in the Richardson Independent School District. When she was told her son would not be given special needs attention due to the color of his skin, she became an advocate for parents in the same position. Listen to her story to learn how to fight for your child's rights.

As she went forward to fight in court, the school district lawyered up against her. The retaliation impacted her entire family.

Working with several levels of learning differences in her home, Cindy has taught her children to advocate for themselves.  Lynn exposes the scandal at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that allowed data mining of the special needs population and how that was shut down. In the process, it revealed the district caps that don't allow for all students to be diagnosed and cared for.

What can be done? Unfortunately, Cindy believes you need to withdraw if this is happening in RISD. Creatively, she's hired private teachers after encouraging them to become specialized. The school district has 45 school days to test, so demand that your child gets early intervention.
